NACE NOLA Academic Scholarship Awards

The NACE New Orleans Section Academic Scholarship Committee will be announcing the Scholarship Awards for the school year 2010-2011. NACE New Orleans Section members are allowed to sponsor two qualified students who is now attending or entering college. Many of these scholarships are given in recognition of past NACE Officers whose biographies can be found further on this Website. Consideration for awards are based on the funds available (voted on by the NACE NOLA Section Board) for award and the number of applications received. Declared majors in Engineering or Basic Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Biochemistry, or Mathematics) courses may be given preference. winning nominees will be contacted prior August 23, 2010 Meeting. Awards will be distributed at the August 2010 meeting with scholarship winners and their parents in attendance as special guests. Aug 21 Energy Industry LA Children's Museum

The energy industry's third annual return to the Louisiana Children's Museum for their Energy FETCH Saturday is slated for Saturday, August 21, 2010 this year.  This has turned out to be one of the premiere events for the Louisiana Children's Museum. The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. As in the past, several oilfield societies will be represented highlighting their disciplines and expertise. Some of the exhibits include:

2010-2011 Scholarship News

The NACE New Orleans Section Academic Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 Scholarship Awards for the school year 2010-2011. Dr David Hui, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UNO  ( dhui@uno.edu ) is the Student Advisor for NACE International Student Section that is forming at the University of New Orleans (UNO). Establishing a UNO NACE Student Section will allow any full time student to be directed to websites that have scholarship, training, network  and employment opportunities in the field of materials and corrosion science.

www.nace.org Home Page is the portal to corrosion science efforts worldwide. On this home page there is a link "Member Sections" (on the right of the home page) that will take local students to the New Orleans Section Web pages including "News and Activities" which can let students know about opportunities and events in the New Orleans area. DEC 6-7 NACE RECTIFIER SCHOOL

The NACE New Orleans Section has scheduled a Rectifier School on Monday and Tuesday December 6 & 7 during our Education Week held at the New Orleans Airport Hilton Hotel in Kenner, Louisiana

R. M. (Bob) Speck is scheduled to be the instructor. Bob Speck, founder of Universal Rectifiers, is a long standing member of NACE and has worked and represented the rectifier industry for more that 50 plus years.

The New Orleans Section of NACE INTERNATIONAL, The Corrosion Society is holding its annual two-day Oilfield Operator Chemical School. This unique event allows participants (oilfield operators, technicians, engineers and other professionals) the opportunity learn and understand flow assurance, corrosion and process chemical basics, discussing problems, chemical selection, treatment applications, field and laboratory analysis, justification, surveillance and optimization. The objective of the school is to provide a basis for chemical treating and networking. There are no pre-requisites for this course.

WHEN: December 9 and 10th (Thursday & Friday) from 8 am to 5:00 pm - WHERE: New Orleans Airport Hilton, 901 Airline Drive, Kenner, LA 70062 (across from the Airport).
